Life Care Planning Certificate

Life Care Planning is becoming an increasingly popular career for health and human services professionals. As a life care planner, you will help people with chronic illnesses and catastrophic injuries improve their overall quality of life and minimize further complications by developing tailored, all-inclusive life care plans for them.

In order to qualify as a Certified Life Care Planner (CLCP), two criteria must be met. The first is that you must be a qualified healthcare provider and the second is based upon your education and training. To satisfy the education portion, Kaplan University offers an accredited life care planning certificate program online that can be completed twelve months or less. In order to participate in this program, Kaplan also requires that you be a "qualified healthcare provider". If you are in one of the professions listed below, then you qualify for this program:

Registered Nurse Occupational herapist Speech Pathologist
Physical Therapist Rehabilitation Counselor Social Worker
Case Manager Special Education Professional Chiropractor
Medical Doctor Professional Counselor
Psychologist Nurse Practitioner

If you decide to enroll in this certificate program you will take courses including, but not limited to: introduction to life care planning, standards and ethics, a range of courses focused on the medical and physiological aspects of disabilities, pediatric and elder care management, practice guidelines, and more. Upon graduation from the program, you will be eligible to take an optional course, Development of a Life Care Plan. If you would like to satisfy the requirements for the Commision of Health Care Certification to sit for the CLCP exam, you will need to take this course as well. In it you will develop a comprehensive life care plan to be reviewed and approved by the CHCC.
